Have you got an anxious heart about Corona virus?
If we do, then the Lord has a special message for us:
“Say to those who have an anxious heart, “Be strong; fear not! Behold, your God will come … come and save you.” Isaiah 35:4.
As I write, we are in ‘lock down’ because of the Corona Virus from China.
There’s an eerie sense about it all.
It reminds me of the first Passover as Hebrew families hid in their houses. The final plague was about to hit Pharaoh and the Egyptians: The Angel of Death was on its way!
The people had faith and were obedient – BUT I really think they still had anxious hearts!
They had painted the lintel and door posts with the blood of a lamb. They were obedient: as commanded, they were hiding inside their houses.
No one was walking their dog, sneaking off to the supermarket to ‘panic-buy’ some last groceries, or making one ‘last’ visit to the pub! – As they are doing today in Europe.
They followed the instructions and believed the Lord would protect them.
BUT I really think they must have been anxious about it all.
It’s so easy and so usual for brothers and sisters to judge us when we show any signs of anxiety. They deride us with their accusations: – “Where’s your trust, Brother?” “Where’s your faith, Sister?”
I heard of a believer being attacked because they had missed church last weekend to self-isolate. Her ‘assailant’ had sneered at her: “Forsake not the assembling of yourselves together!” Using the very Word of God as an arrow!
Don’t listen to the accusations of those who should know better. They are only criticising you in order to make themselves look more spiritual.
If you have a heavy heart today – and who wouldn’t have a heavy heart when separated from our families (our own family are living across four continents) – If you have a heavy heart because of this plague, then don’t despair.
Here in Isaiah we see the gentle heart of God:
“Say to those who have an anxious heart, “Be strong; fear not! Behold, your God will come … and save you!”
